The event will appear on your map and stay there until completed, but you can. To reclaim them, you must defeat it in battle. Its only purpose is to protect the Shrieker by keeping it out of range. The Shrieker will steal eight random trinkets from your inventory. Between the filth and ruffled feathers of the nest lies a treasure trove of shiny and glittering Trinkets and gems, the only things decorating the nest that make it somewhat appealing to look at. If the Shrieker is killed first or it manages to escape before the nest is destroyed, no items will drop. If you lose enough trinkets to deaths/retreats/etc., a Shrieker mission should turn up again to allow the player to retrieve the lost trinkets, thankfully. I read that the Shrieker mission regularly reappears later and when you defeat it you get back all your trinkets. The Town Event where the Shrieker steals trinkets was recently patched to only happen once. But when destroyed, at Apprentice difficulty it drops 1 trapezohedron, 1-3 at Veteran and 3-5 at Champion. Beat all the hard bosses, got every Ancestor trinket (including Shambler exclusives), all the Shrieker trinkets, only need to kill Vvulf and I have everything (playing vanilla DD with no extra classes).
